With the original Challenger 600 as its foundation, Bombardier developed a popular series of business aircraft. The Challenger 604 solidifies the family name in the long-range business jet market after various improvements and enhancements. The 604 offers range, speed, sophistication, and flair. It was certified in 1995. The Challenger 604 has a lot of power. The jet is propelled by two General Electric CF34-3B engines, each of which has an 8,729 lb thrust rating. This means that the 604 can travel 3,850 miles at a speed of.74 Mach while carrying eight passengers. However, with to improved fuel distribution and increased capacity, 4,000+ nautical mile runs are now feasible at 424 ktas (a personal milestone for Canadair) (2,460 gallons). The aircraft has a glass cockpit, similar to the Challenger 601-3A, called the Collins Pro Line 4. The left and right primary flight displays, multifunction displays, and EICAS are displayed on six screens (7.25 inches each). The avionics package also includes technologies that are helpful to pilots, such as dual Pro Line 400 all-digital interface comm/nav/ident radios and HF-9000 high frequency radios, as well as digital air data computers, turbulence detecting radar, and flight director/autopilot systems. All of these things add to the comfort and ease of flying.
